free keiko, the orca. la baleine qui jouait willy. qu'est-ce que l'authenticité, le naturel et la liberté?

planet22 organise en collaboration avec le Centre d'Art Contemporain de Genève trois soirées avec le groupe de théâtre suisse-allemand Schauplatz International d'Erlach (Berne).

Keiko est une star de cinéma. Il est la baleine qui a conquis, dans les films Free Willy l, ll et lll, le cÏur de millions de spectateurs. Par la suite il fut, comme dans le film, libéré et la liberté devint sa prison : l'animal sauvage ne voulait plus être sauvage. L'état de prisonnier était devenu sa deuxième nature. De la même manière que la baleine a été dressée en acteur, serait-elle redressée en animal sauvage ? Paul G. Irwin, président d'Humane Society of the United States, l'organisation qui se préoccupe du destin de Keiko, explique pourquoi : "La lutte pour la liberté de Keiko est aussi la lutte pour notre liberté. Elle révèle que l'homme peut faire du bien et met en avant notre obligation de défendre des valeurs comme la pitié, la justice, la gentillesse et le respect pour la vie. Il s'agit de la lutte pour un monde meilleur pour tous. C'est cela que Keiko peut nous apprendre." Donc, finalement, il s'agit de nous. Qu'est-ce que la nature signifie ? Qu'est-ce que le naturel ? Qu'est-ce que la liberté ? Qu'est-ce que l'authenticité et qu'est-ce que l'artificiel ? Keiko n'est pas venu à bout de ses questions. Il est décédé subitement le 12 décembre 2003 en Norvège, dans la Taknesfjord, d'une pneumonie.

C'est la première fois que Schauplatz International réinvestit la forme de théâtre traditionnel : le drame. Pour traiter les questions mentionnées ci-dessus, le théâtre traditionnel offre une forme adéquate à cette réflexion, et devient lui-même objet de réflexion.

With Free Keiko Schauplatz International continues the discussion on reality and its representation respectively the reality of fiction.

Free Willy is a play based on the three Hollywood movies "Free Willy 1Ð3" and the documentary "Keikos new adventures". During the performance guests will be invited to overtake the part of the actors. The guests are all casted and have to fulfill the qualification of naturalness. The actors themeselves guide those guests and let them play.

The story of Free Willy: The Orka, its name is Willy, lives imprisoned in a zoo and has to make tricks for the public, Willy has no friends until he meets a young boy who is lonely too. This young boy and the Orka become friends and the boy finally frees Willy. In Free Willy 2 and 3 the story restarts. Parallel to the Hollywood movies the Orka which plays the role of Willy , its name is Keiko, has exactly the same destiny. From freedom to prison to freedom to prison and so on: He lived in a zoo, play tricks for the public and got trained for his role as Willy. Willy got famous and one decided that Keiko should also live in the wilderness. They trained him again to live in freedom. But Keiko likes to be a star, so he came back from the ocean to a little Fjord in Norway. There he gets food and attention and he can show his tricks. Now his trainers try again to train him to go back to the wilderness. Keiko who played Willy became Willy. The documentary shows Keikos adventures. The play "Free keiko" uses the dramaturgy of the Hollywood movies and inserts also the documentary. It deals with the longing for authenticity and the problem of its representation. What means nature and which picture do we have of it? How should it look like? It's the conflict between adaptation and self government, nature and culture - obviously a question of power.

For the first time Schauplatz International goes back to a traditional form of theatre, the play. We think for those topics the traditional theater offers the right form of reflection and becomes the object of reflection itself.
